Employment Contract

Learn about the definition for this legal term.

What is Employment Contract?

A contract between an employer and an employee, setting the terms of the employment relationship. Without a written contract, the relationship is treated as "at will," meaning that the employer may fire the employee at its own will. This harsh rule is tempered by the state and federal prohibitions established against discrimination in employment.
