The Wisconsin Bar Exam is a 2-day exam. Day 1 may include parts of the Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) and the Multistate Performance Test (MPT). It may also include questions prepared by the Wisconsin Board of Bar Examiners. Day 2 is the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE), a 200-question, multiple-choice exam.
Agency and Partnership, Business Organizations (Corporations, Partnerships, Associations, and Sole Proprietorships), Civil Procedure (Pleading and Practice, and Jurisdiction of Courts), Commercial Law (including Sales, Secured Transactions, and Negotiable Instruments), Conflicts of Laws, Constitutional Law (Federal), Contracts, Criminal Law & Procedure, Evidence, Family Law (Domestic Relations), Limited Liability Companies, Professional Responsibility (Ethics and Legal Responsibilities of the Profession), Property (includes Real Estate), Taxation (Federal), Torts, Trusts & Estates.
Not applicable; the MPRE is not required for admission.
MBE (weighted 50%), essay, and MPT scores are scaled and combined to determine if a passing score of 258 was achieved. The written component of the exam may include the MPT, the MEE, and/or locally developed essay questions. A total scaled score of 258 is required to pass.
Typically released 6-8 weeks after the exam.
Wisconsin accepts scaled MBE scores of 135 or higher from other jurisdictions if the exam was taken within 37 months of the present exam and part of a successful exam.
In order to be eligible for admission without taking the Wisconsin Bar Exam, the applicant must have been engaged in the active practice of law for at least three of the last five years immediately preceding the application. Applicants who failed the Wisconsin bar exam are not eligible for admission on motion.
