The first U.S. state to grant women the right to vote, Wyoming has an outstanding tradition of using the law to make America a more just place, and you can become a part of it by passing the bar exam. The exam is offered in February and July of each year. The February 2026 exam will take place from February 24–25, 2026. The fee to apply for the bar exam in Wyoming is $600. Although the application deadline for the February 2026 exam has lapsed, you can still apply for the July 2026 exam once that application opens. The July 2026 exam will be administered from July 28–29, 2026.

Like 40 other jurisdictions in the United States, Wyoming uses the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE). The UBE has three sections: the Multistate Performance Test (MPT), the Multistate Essay Exam (MEE), and the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE). The MPT and MEE are administered on the first day of the exam, while the MBE is administered on the second day. On the first day of the exam, you’ll start with the MPT in the morning session. Then you’ll break for lunch, after which you’ll continue with the MEE in the afternoon. The MPT consists of two ninety-minute essay questions, while the MEE comprises six half-hour essay questions. The Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) is administered on the second day of the exam, and it’s split into two sessions: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. For the MBE, test takers will spend six hours answering 200 multiple-choice questions.

What subjects will you be tested on?

The MEE questions can cover any of the following subjects: Business Associations (including Agency, Partnerships, and Corporations), Civil Procedure, Conflict of Laws, Constitutional Law, Contracts and Sales, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Family Law, Real Property, Secured Transactions (including Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code), Torts, and Wills & Estates. Not all of these subjects will necessarily be tested on exam day, but it’s crucial to study them all so that you’re in a strong position to knock the MEE out of the park.

The MPT tests your ability to write a persuasive analysis of a fictional legal case in a memorandum or legal brief. The prompt will include the laws that apply to the fact pattern. You’ll be graded primarily on your legal writing ability and the quality of your legal analysis.

The MBE will test Constitutional Law, Contracts and Sales, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Federal Civil Procedure, Real Property, and Torts.

What’s the minimum score for the MPRE?

To pass the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) in Wyoming, you must receive a scaled score of at least 85.

How is the exam scored?

A score of at least 270 is needed to pass the UBE in Wyoming. The MPT, MEE, and MBE are combined into a single scaled score. The MBE is worth half the total score, while the MPT is worth 20% and the MEE is worth 30%. Remember that if you struggle writing essays, you can make up for lost points by scoring highly on the MBE. Likewise, if you don’t feel confident with multiple-choice, don’t lose hope – the essays account for half of your score.

When are the results released?

You can expect to receive your score within two to three months after the exam, but no exact date has been provided.

Can I transfer my MBE scores from another jurisdiction?

Yes.

What about reciprocity across states?

Wyoming doesn’t have reciprocity agreements with any other states. You can apply for admission on motion to practice law in Wyoming if you’ve graduated from an ABA-accredited law school, have practiced law for at least five of the past seven years, are in good standing in all jurisdictions where you’re licensed to practice, and meet the state’s character and fitness requirements.
