What is Motion in Limine?

A motion filed just before the commencement of trial by a party's counsel asking that certain proposed evidence be excluded from the trial due to its being not admissible under some legal rule. The motion is discussed outside the presence of the jury. The procedure may be used in both civil and criminal proceedings.
