What is Protection From Abuse?

Most states have statutes allowing a physically abused spouse to obtain an emergency injunction keeping the other spouse from coming near the premises or contacting the victim. A preliminary order may be obtained ex parte but there will have to be a hearing in front of a county judge to get a final order of protection.
